Haiti - DR : Haitian mayors and Dominicans want to act together

Thursday at the Juana Orix Hotel in Ounaminthe as part of the strengthening of binational relations, was held a meeting of the Inter-municipal Committee Transfrontalier (CIT), where mayors Haitians and Dominicans reiterated their commitment to continue working to improve the good relations between municipalities and citizens on both sides of the border.

One of the issues discussed was the strengthening of the Committee and the need for the national sectors of the two countries to take into account the local communities in decisions concerning the border area.

However, participants wanting to move forward agreed on the need to act without having to depend on the slowness of central administrations and ministries while urgent needs at the border must be resolved quickly by town halls through of the CIT.

The next meeting between the mayors, where several projects will be discussed, will take place in Salcedo, Dominican Republic, whose mayor Ignacio Rosa is also the President of the Federation of Dominican Municipalities (FEDOMU).

Learn more about the CIT :

The Inter-municipal Cross-Border Committee, co-led by the mayor of Quanaminthe Luma Demetrius and the mayor of Dajabòn Miguel Cruz, includes 12 municipalities and 3 Dominican municipal districts.

In Haiti, these are the municipalities of the North-East: Fort-Liberté, Ferrier, Ouanaminthe, Cap-Haïtien, Mont Organized, Carice and Mombin Crochu and in the Dominican Republic of the Northern Border Municipality: Montecristi, Pepillo Salcedo, Dajabon , Loma de Cabrera and the Restauracion, as well as the municipal districts of Cañongo, Capotillo and Santiago de la Cruz.
