Haiti - FLASH : The Haitian State ignores the requests of the Haitian «Cañeros», but cash their money

Monday several dozens of "Cañeros" (sugar cane workers) of Haitian origin, demonstrated in front of the Embassy of Haiti in Santo Domingo to ask the Haitian authorities for the umpteenth time to give them passports and certificates of birth promised for years...

The demonstrators pointed out that only the Dominican Republic collaborates in their migratory regularization deploring that the Government of Haiti does not care to come to the aid of its diaspora in neighboring country.

A week ago, cane workers also protested peacefully in front of the Ministry of the Interior and Police (MIP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25371-haiti-dr-haitian-cane-cutters-demand-an-extension-of-pnre.html in the context of applications for residence, because they could not apply to the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE), faults of the requested Haitian identification documents, essential for their registration.

Recall that since January 2015, 4,608 sugar cane workers of Haitian descent have each paid 1,000 pesos claimed by Haiti, to obtain: a birth certificate, a passport and a National Identification Card (CIN) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19107-haiti-dr-the-caneros-sent-4-608-copies-of-document-requests-to-privert.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14523-haiti-social-angry-cane-cutters-asking-4-6-million-gourdes-to-haiti.html without ever getting them despite many demonstrations in front of the Haitian diplomatic representations in the Dominican Republic including a meeting with the Prime Minister of the time Evans Paul https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16076-haiti-politic-the-prime-minister-receives-delegation-of-sugarcane-cutters-from-dr.html
