Haiti - Petit-Goâve : 8 hours of demonstrations and violence, several victims !

Tuesday Faustin Soulouque high school students and college students in solidarity with other institutions demonstrated in the streets of Petit-Goâve during nearly 8 hours, a day enamelled of violence which made several victims among the demonstrators and the forces of order. The students of Faustin Soulouque High School after being reconciled with Pierre Baptiste students whom they had stoned on January 15th https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26672-haiti-petit-goave-violent-clashes-between-students-at-least-6-wounded.html began demonstrating around 9:00 am

School activities quickly became paralyzed and all the schools returned their students often voluntarily, sometimes under the pressure of the demonstrators, as in the "Le Nouveau Monde" college which was the target of a rain of stones of very motivated students, who broke down the college barrier. Balance 3 injured students including a girl injured in the face by a stone.

Estimated at nearly 2,000, high school and college students have tried repeatedly to block the National Road #2. Public offices and police officers have been repeatedly targeted by stone throwing. Bilan : 3 injured police officers...

The only vehicle in the city police station was damaged and the Peace Court, targeted by stone, was vandalized after protesters broke the two main barriers, forcing judges, lawyers and individuals to leave the premises.

Subsequently, the protesters clashed with the police by throwing stones and other objects at them, police officers who responded by firing tear gas at the Street of Port to regain control of the situation.

High school students attempted to invade the APN but were repelled by the police. The BNC was also the target of offensives by "students", some wearing hoods.

At the end of the afternoon, the police officers had to deal with the stones of the students again .. A student of NS4 Yves R.Lamartine College Christopher Jean François (21 years), was arrested and placed in custody at the police station of the city.

Calm returned to the city around 5:00 pm.
