Haiti - Politic : Albert Ramdin and the priorities of the next Government

Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) who has attended to the closure of the annual conference of executives (CADE) 2011, in Panama, on the theme "Public Safety, Peace for Development", said that the international community will bring political stability to Haiti after the March presidential election which saw the large victory of the singer Michel Martelly, whose the investiture is scheduled for May 14.

"We all hope that the election of new president will bring stability, which is a prerequisite to the good governance, although we are aware there are many problems [...] But the most important to me is that the Haitian leaders assumes the responsibility of their own country, although we are aware that we must support them."

The Assistant Secretary General said that the new Haitian government will give priority to issues such as : the rehousing of victims of the earthquake of January 2010 that still live under tents, creating jobs in the short term and the fight against the cholera epidemic. Noting that the Government must address other priorities such as: education, health, environment and strengthening the capacity of institutions in Haiti.
