Haiti - Dom. Rep. : The Ambassador of Haiti calls for the online registration of 2,526 Haitian students

On Monday, the Ambassador of Haiti in the Dominican Republic, Smith Agustín accompanied by Jephte Lamy, educational advisor of the Embassy of Haiti, met with Dr. Franklin García Fermín, Minister of Higher Education, Sciences and of Technology (MESCYT) which was accompanied by Carlos Mendieta Deputy Minister of MESCYT and Special Advisor Julio Altagracia.

The purpose of this working meeting at the initiative of the Ambassador of Haiti, was to plead with the Dominican Minister so that some 2,526 Haitian university students can register online because of the Covid-19 and continue their programs studies in Dominican academies.

The two men analyzed the higher education system and bilateral collaborative programs and were unanimous in recognizing the importance of higher education as a tool for development.

Ambassador Agustín pointed out that the Haitian Diplomatic Mission is working on an agreement with the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs to regularize Haitian students who continue their studies at Dominican universities.

For his part, Minister Franklin García Fermín promised the Ambassador that he would convene the Dominican university associations (ADOU) and university rectors (ADRU) to expose the problem and seek a solution within the framework of procedures adapted to the rules of higher academies.
