Singers, bands and dancers from Canada, the United States, France, Haiti and Colombia will participate in the International Symposium of Hip Hop 2011 in Cuba, to be held from today until August 21, 2011 in Havana.

Among the participants are found the French choreographer Jeison Tousent, that will offer a workshop of break dance, an urban dance emerged in the African-American communities of New York ; the U.S. rap band Intikana ; Canadian singers Lu Piensa and Vox Sambox ; the Haitians Makendi and Edú, and the Colombians Jaison and Lucia.

Under the theme "Hip Hop for Peace," the Cuban capital will bring together over 70 musicians, taggers, DJ, dancers and connoisseurs of that kind of music in workshops on the movements and the body language.

With over 15 years of history, the Cuban hip hop movement, ranged from the marginalization, "the underground" and the institutionalization. Cuban rappers say that the Cuban Hip Hop has a unique style that results from the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz, reggae, funk, soul and rock and roll.

For the fifth year, participants will gather to share experiences and talk about race, politics, gender violence and the spread of this form of art in Cuba.
