Haiti - USA: Kenneth Merten at the end of the mission, disappointed with the refusal to dialogue with political actors

Monday April 11, 2022 at a press conference at his official residence in Bourdon, Kenneth Merten the American Chargé d'affaires a.i. announced the end of his mission in Haiti (started in October 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34978-haiti-diplomacy-american-ambassador-kenneth-merten-back-in-haiti.html ) and declared "[...] Haiti has missed a good moment of attracting foreign investment, because of the political instability, the problem of insecurity including kidnapping, among others..."

The American diplomat said he was disappointed with the actors of the various crisis resolution agreements who refuse to dialogue together to find a consensus to resolve the crisis.

Also disappointed not to have succeeded in bringing together around the same table the protagonists of the crisis and criticized the behavior of the Haitian Executive which, according to him, does not have a precise vision to move forward towards the elections and resolve the political crisis.

Regarding insecurity, Kenneth Merten said "The United States has not turned its back on Haiti [...] We are very sensitive to the problem of insecurity", recalling the efforts already made by the United States to provide the National Police of Haiti with appropriate materials and equipment to eradicate gangs, ensuring "By the month of May, additional American aid to the PNH in this area will be effective. Canada and France will also support Haiti as part of this process."
