By the end of this year, the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) plans to gradually increase its production around 110 megawatts and promises to provide 10 hours of electricity per day to its customers in the Metropolitan area. This is what is provided for in the short-term component contained in the "EZDH Strategic Plan, Horizon 2030" presented on April 13 at the Karibe Convention Center.

According to Engineer Henry Civil of the EDH Production Department, these 110 megawatts will come from power plants : Péligre, E-Power, Carrefour I, Carrefour II and Carrefour III.

Henry Civil recalls that "To run Carrefour III daily for 10 hours over a period of 3 months, we need 3 million gallons of diesel"...

However, for lack of money to buy the said fuel, the company no longer being subsidized, out of 47 circuits in the metropolitan area, only 8 are currently supplied with 36 Mw, and the company distributes a few hours of electricity per rotation of zone. Let's recall that the EDH in terms of installed power, has a capacity of 280 megawatts.

In addition to the fuel problem, the company's distribution grid, 40 years old which has not been rehabilitated, is obsolete and inefficient and shows energy losses of 30%...

The other major challenge for EDH is the marketing of electricity and the payment of bills by consumers.

It should be remembered that without a subsidy, the EDH has great difficulty in operating. Private residences (individual consumers), more than 13.8 billion gourdes;

Commercial enterprises, more than 1.4 billion Gourdes
