Haiti - Politic : No fuel price increase for the moment (official)

Following rumors suggesting an upcoming upward revision of fuel prices, the Ministry of Communication informs the population "that no increase in the price of fuel at the pump is planned."

However, any rumor having an origin, it should be remembered that Michel Patrick Boisvert, the Minister of Finance had declared a few days ago that "the rise in fuel prices was inevitable" and that the Government was awaiting the agreement of the actors of the oil sector to set the date for new increases... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36464-haiti-news-zapping.html

Regarding the "fuel shortage", the Ministry confirms that "new fuel orders will arrive no later than this weekend in Haiti, recalling that since the decision to liberalize the import of petroleum products, "orders are directly from distributors of petroleum products," implying between the lines that this shortage and the delays would be attributable to the distributors.

However, it is worth remembering that a few days ago the Government handed over 1.3 billion Gourdes to the oil companies, a partial amount of a debt of the State, which should make another payment of its debt shortly, so the oil companies can have enough cash to order fuel... this being more likely the cause of the delays...

Finally, the Ministry ensures that the Government remains attentive to the evolution of the international market in the context of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and ensures, through the Ministry of Commerce and its agents in the field, the management of stocks to avoid speculations.
