Haiti - Education : The Ministry announces changes this year in school programs

Thursday, August 25 in Pétion-ville, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Unique school book for the 1st and 2nd AF https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37220-haiti-education-the-single-school-book-well-received-by-teachersunions.htm) which compiles five subjects (Creole, mathematics, social sciences, French and experimental sciences | which is not yet ready for free distribution nationwide at 2 weeks back to school... the Ministry of National Education has announced the changes made this year in the context of program orientation.

"Creole : language of instruction until the last year of secondary school. We are advancing step by step on the multilingual school based on Creole. The National Curriculum Commission will continue to assess how Haitian students can start earlier with English and Spanish. This requires a lot of reform in the way we teach languages ​​and the training and tools for teachers," explains the Ministry

Recalling that "This year 100% of the students of the new secondary baccalaureate had the obligation to compose in Creole subjects and to produce a work in Creole, unlike the traditional Rhéto-Philo school which was only in French."

Preschool : languages ​​of instruction: Creole; languages ​​taught -

1st fundamental cycle (1-2): languages ​​of instruction: Creole; languages ​​taught: Creole, French

1st fundamental cycle (3-4): languages ​​of instruction: Creole, French; languages ​​taught: Creole, French

2nd fundamental cycle (5-6): languages ​​of instruction: Creole, French; languages ​​taught: Creole, French

3rd basic cycle (7-8-9): languages ​​of instruction: Creole, French; languages ​​taught: Creole, French, English, Spanish

Secondary (10): languages ​​of instruction: Creole, French; languages ​​taught: Creole, French, English, Spanish.
