Haiti - Politic : Armed intervention in Haiti, Canada has not yet made its decision

Monday, October 31, 2022, Sébastien Carrière, Ambassador of Canada to Haiti during his report to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the House of Commons in Ottawa, confirmed that the team responsible for assessing the situation in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37992-haiti-crisis-canada-leads-an-assessment-mission-in-haiti.html has now returned to Canada.

He explained that this team was already briefing senior officials on its observations on the ground as the Canadian government develops next steps to assist Haiti.

Regarding the sending of an international armed force to restore order in Haiti proposed to the UN, Ambassador Carrière specified that "Canada had not yet decided whether it supported such an approach" while emphasizing that many people in Haiti and the Caribbean region hope that Canada will take a leadership role in supporting Haiti.

In addition, Secretary Antony Blinken announced that a draft new resolution on Haiti was under consideration at the United Nations. This will authorize the deployment of a non-UN international assistance mission to help strengthen the security situation and the distribution of aid in Haiti.
