Sanctions Canada : Former PM Lamothe Files Appeal in Federal Court

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe filed a request with the Federal Court in Montreal to have his name removed from the list of sanctions imposed on him by Canada for allegedly supporting gangs that started a humanitarian crisis in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38184-haiti-flash-canada-sanctions-martelly-lamothe-and-ceant.html He explains that this is an arbitrary decision , where he did not have the chance to give his version of the facts and asks that Ottawa give him the documents used to make this decision. His lawyer says "[...] the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is without foundation, neither legal nor factual."

More than 13,000 Haitians repatriated in 20 days

More than 13,000 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation were repatriated to Haiti by the Dominican Republic between December 1 and 20, 2022 according to Venancio Alcántara, the Director of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), adding that the migration control operations and repatriations will continue even during the holidays.
