The Delegation of the European Union (EU), together with the Embassies of Germany, Spain and France, made the following statement on the adoption of the "National Consensus for an Inclusive Transition and Transparent Elections" in Haiti.

Statement by the EU and Member States in Haiti :

"The EU Delegation in Haiti as well as the EU Member States (MS) present in Haiti (Germany, Spain and France) welcome with interest the publication of the document entitled 'National Consensus for an Inclusive Transition and Transparent Elections' published in the official newspaper 'Le Moniteur' of the Republic of Haiti. The EU and the Member States welcome the continuation of this inclusive dialogue between all Haitian actors interested in a democratic solution to the multidimensional crisis in Haiti.

The EU and the Member States recall, in this perspective, that there is no alternative to the restoration of democratic institutions in Haiti and, consequently, to the organization of free, transparent and credible elections of so that, in the last instance, the floor is returned, in peace and security, to the sovereign people.

With this in mind, the EU and the Member States hope that the commitments contained in this document will be rapidly implemented, in particular the forthcoming appointment of a Provisional Electoral Committee, so that the timetable defined by this text is respected.

The EU and the Member States reaffirm their solidarity with the Haitian people and reiterate their desire to step up their cooperation with Haiti in all areas."»
