Haiti - Economy : Good news for the ex-workers of «Valdor apparel S.A.»

Flashback, in January 2022, the company Valdor apparel S.A closed its manuacture in Haiti without respecting the rights of workers, nor its obligations with the Haitian government, selling assets before dishonestly leaving Haiti, leaving more than 1,100 workers without work nor any financial compensation.

Let's Recall that Valdor, which belongs to a company based in the United States, produced clothes for many brand owners. Including HPV.

PVH, owner by license of the Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein brands (1% of the production of Valdor apparel S.A) in Haiti, although not responsible for the closure and poor practices of its supplier, decided in terms of "Social Responsibility and Ethical Behavior in the Global Fashion Industry" to take responsibility for the actions of any of its suppliers.

PVH has voluntarily agreed to pay $1 million to cover severance pay for all workers laid off by its supplier and pension contributions directly to workers and the government pension fund.

"We are pleased that we were able to provide financial restitution for the affected workers in Val D’or Haiti and participate in a comprehensive resolution to this unfortunate situation," the company said.

This sum shared between the former Valdor workers represents an equivalent amount varying between 6 months and more than a year of salary. What for these workers left without resources, to meet their needs, pay their debts, send their children to school, see start small businesses and support their families.
