Haiti - FLASH : Returnees and migrants from the border area are not excluded from the new Biden program

Wednesday, February 8, Ms. Judith Nazareth Auguste, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, met with Eric W. Stromayer, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the United States Embassy in Haiti.

The Minister particularly emphasized the new conditional stay program in the USA of the Biden administration (Humanitarian Parol program) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38566-haiti-flash-new-us-entry-program-for-haitian-migrants-conditions-and-steps-to-follow.html with a list of questions relating to the content of this program, its progress, the reasons for the eligibility of Haitian nationals in order to avoid misinformation and to communicate the true information regarding the program to some confused members of the diaspora.

Minister Auguste strongly expressed her concerns about the full and complete integration of migrants within the framework of this programme. In particular, she raised the question of the possibility for beneficiaries, especially young people, to have access to education.

The Chargé d'Affaires a.i, Stromayer provided all the details on the program and its process, emphasizing its humanitarian nature and its impact on the forms of illegal migration to the United States identified in Haiti (boat people, attempted penetration by land border with Mexico).

Contrary to circulating information and reported remarks "Returnees boat people and migrants from the border area who have not had time to enter American territory are not excluded from the program" according to the diplomat Stromayer.

Moreover, he recalled that the services of the Embassy in Port-au-Prince did not intervene in the process and affirmed that in this program, extended to four countries, and specified that there is no question of quota reserved for each country but analysis of files on a case-by-case basis [within the framework of 30,000 permits per month].

Note that "U.S. immigration takes approximately 90 days to process applications for this humanitarian program," according to a Tweet from the U.S. Embassy in Haiti.
