Haiti - Politic : Colombian President Gustavo Petro feels co-responsible for the situation in Haiti

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, declared to the media on the sidelines of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit, that he felt co-responsible for the situation of destabilization in Haiti because the death of its President, Jovenel Moïse, involved Colombian mercenaries.

"I want to go to Haiti and this is an issue where Colombia has a joint responsibility, first because Haiti helped us to be a free country and then because Colombian nationals went to kill their President," said President Petro

Regarding what is happening in Haiti, Petro indicated that the solution for this country is not just to carry out an anti-gang intervention, but that the contexts must be analyzed, including the American context underlining "In Haiti, there is a crisis, with an erroneous and disastrous policy which has extended the problem which was previously very concentrated and the circumstances have worsened."

He said it was the Haitian people who had to solve their own crisis first, but that it needed democratic aid “not aid based on fuses."

He assured that he looked carefully at this co-responsibility and it is for this reason that he wants to go to Haiti to help the Haitian Government and the various actors concerned to establish a democratic path.
