Haiti - FLASH : Political Forum of the High Council of Transition (Video)

Tuesday May 23 and Wednesday May 24, 2023, the High Council of Transition (HCT) Chaired by Mrs. Mirlande Manigat in concert with the Prime Minister, organizes at the Karibe Convention Center, a forum on the topics: security; constitutional and electoral reforms; good governance ; economic and social measures. The different themes will be discussed in the workshop to arrive at proposed solutions. Organized structures of society participate in these meetings.

The primary objective is to find the way forward for the organization of the elections, after the restoration of the security climate.

Foreign diplomats accredited in Haiti, representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), are invited to this forum as observers.

In a pre-recorded message of 2mn 30 seconds, Mirlande Manigat confirmed the holding of the forum despite the criticisms that fuse around this event. For Mirlande Manigat "The dark moments underline, for us, our responsibilities, in particular those of our elites who must ask themselves what they are going to do, what they are capable of doing. Our responsibility is fixed and the rest of us at the HCT level, we decide to take this responsibility."

Mrs. Manigat appealed to all those who can to participate in this political dialogue "[...] History will say that there are correct, aware, patriotic Haitians who, like me, are not in agreement with this situation that they see and who decide to stand up to say that the country is not going to sink [...]"

BINUH commends the HTC for the ongoing efforts to organize this political forum "[...]We encourage actors to rally around the initiative and to advance the inter-Haitian dialogue on security, reforms, good governance and socio-economic measures."
