Haiti - Training : Three municipalities of Quebec share their expertise with Haiti

The municipalities of Sherbrooke, Montmagny and of Richmond (Quebec) welcome a Haitian delegation for a stay of training, as part of the Haiti-Canada Municipal Cooperation Project (MCP) of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), in order to share their expertise and help the communities hard hit by the earthquake of 2010 to provide essential services to their people.

"We are proud to support Canada's efforts in Haiti and help communities hard hit by the earthquake to rebuild" declared Berry Vrbanovic, president of the FCM.

The delegation, composed of six employees of the Agency Technical Intercommunal des Palmes (ATIP), established in order to strengthen the capacity of communities in urban and regional planning, will be in training from this week until October 24. The group will be split into two teams of three or four participants. The first team, which will include a charge of land management, a management specialist and a mapping technician, will be received by the city of Sherbrooke in order to receive a solid education on Geographic information system (GIS). The second team will be received by the City of Montmagny to follow a training program on the process of decision making and information management in the municipal world. The two teams will then be joint for a day of training on the application of new knowledge as part of the planning and of management of the territory in the municipality of Richmond.

"By sharing their expertise, municipalities will help their Haitian counterparts to better meet the basic needs of their population," added Vrbanovic.

Learn more about the Haiti-Canada Municipal Cooperation Project (MCP) :

The MCP implemented jointly by the FCM, the Union of Quebec Municipalities (UMQ) and the City of Montreal, aims to strengthen the haitians territorial collectivities hit hard by the earthquake of January 2010, so that they can ensure the essential services to their people, and have a role in the reconstruction of country. The program aims to restore the institutional and administrative base of the City of Port-au-Prince and of the municipalities of Gressier, Leogane, Petit Goave and Grand Goave forming the region of Palmes; and also gives a support to the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH), to the National Federation of CASEC (FENACAH) and to the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Collectivities (MICT).
