USA : Brian Nichols' reaction to calls for insurrection

Responding to calls for insurrection and civil disobedience in Haiti, Brian A. Nichols, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, wrote in a social media post, "We denounce the efforts of those who seek to destabilize the country. The only path to long-term stability is through free and fair elections."

Demonstrations : Situation in the provinces

Monday January 29, 2024, residents of the towns of Trou-du-Nord, Terrier-Rouge, Fort-Liberté and Ouanaminthe paralyzed commercial and school activities as well as transport, by erecting barricades on the main access routes. In Ouanaminthe, heavy fire from automatic weapons was heard early in the morning. In Jérémie, burning tires and barricades blocked the roads near the central office of Electricity of Haiti (EDH), including access to the airport.

Public transport, an untenable racket

Public transport companies are obliged to pay up to 1 million gourdes per month to bandits as a right of passage. Sans Souci and Capital Coach Line fear the worst.

A rapist of a minor arrested

Monday January 29, 2024 in the afternoon, the Bon-Repos Police proceeded to the arrest in the Moléard area of Florantin Eustache (27 years old), originally from Mirebalais accused of rape of a minor.

Martine Moïse exonerated

Martine Moïse, former first lady, was removed from the list of personalities prosecuted in the corruption case at the National Equipment Center (CNE), in addition, judge Al Dunel Dimanche ordered the unfreezing of her bank accounts.

PAPJAZZ Festival 2024, a success

Sunday January 28 at the Karibe hotel, 4th and last evening of the PAPJAZZ Festival, Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of Education, praised the courage and determination of the initiators of this Festival and congratulated the artists, artisans and volunteers for their involvement in the success of this event. The minister praised a new feature of the PAP JAZZ 2024 festival, subsidized by his Ministry "Jazz Pou Timoun !" designed for children and parents from different backgrounds. For her part, Milena Sandler, the General Director of the Haiti Jazz Foundation, gave a positive assessment of the festival which brought together, like every year, national and international artists.
