Haiti - FLASH : The country at the time of anti-Government demonstrations

On Monday, demonstrations broke out in Port-au-Prince and in several cities in Haiti to demand the departure of Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, the police used tear gas grenades and rubber bullets in several cities from the country.

In Port-au-Prince, the majority of activities were disrupted. Schools remained closed, businesses partially operated, banks and some public transport vans and motorcycle taxis continued to offer their services at a minimum. Informal merchants were visible in small numbers... Demonstrators with machetes were seen, bursts of automatic weapons heard. Many roads were blocked by barricades, the tension was palpable and demonstrators in large numbers (depending on the areas and cities in the country) were demanding the departure of Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry.

Provincial towns were under tension, barricades and demonstrations in the North-East: Trou-du-Nord, Terrier-Rouge and Fort-Liberté, banks and public institutions did not function. Large-scale commerce was very affected as well as the region's industrial parks (PIC and Codevi). In Les Cayes, the RN#2 was blocked at Charpentier by a cement barricade. Clashes took place with agents of the Departmental Law Enforcement Unit (UDMO) with demonstrators throwing stones and bottles at them provoking tear gas grenades in response. There are reports of 1 death and several gunshot wounds, with the police being singled out.… Buildings were looted. In Cap-Haïtien, commercial banks and other businesses remained closed. In Gonaïves, same demonstration situation. In Ouanaminte, hundreds of activists demonstrated across the town accompanied by armed agents from the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP). RN#2 was blocked near Duparc. Schools, public and private institutions remained closed. Hinche, several streets were blocked by barricades. In Jérémie, the anti-government mobilization continued with barricades and burning tires.
