White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said : "Today, the President approved an assistance package for Haitian security forces to help them protect civilians and critical infrastructure against organized and targeted gang attacks.

Our assistance package of up to $10 million, sourced from Department of Homeland Security surplus inventories, may include weapons, ammunition, body armor and helmets.

Our support is intended to help Haitians restore security, order and the rule of law and protect civilians, while at the same time remaining committed to supporting Haitian-led effort for a peaceful transition of power."

No information has been given as to whether this assistance to the PNH will be quickly available to our police officers...

This additional equipment for the Haitian police "is a good news," declared Lionel Lazarre, Coordinator of the National Union of Haitian Police (Synapoha). "[...] the police need more resources and more equipment."
