Haiti - Politic : Prime Minister Garry Conille met with Luis Almagro (OAS)

Tuesday July 2nd, 2024, as part of his official visit to the United States, Prime Minister Garry Conille, accompanied by Ms. Dominique Dupuy, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Ketleen Florestal, Minister of the Economy and Finance, met with Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) on the commitment of the hemispheric Organization in support of the transition and the efforts of the OAS around the priorities of the Haitian Government.

They also discussed challenges related to security, the rule of law as well as the reform of the Constitution and the upcoming elections.

"It is an honor to receive this morning the Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Conille [...] The region and the OAS must continue to support Haiti. It is a priority to ensure human, financial, material resources and political support for the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti (MMSS). Likewise, it is essential to continue cooperation with the Haitian National Police.

Solutions for the country's security must be comprehensive; the strengthening of democracy and institutions must also be considered, as well as access to rights and opportunities for the human development of Haitians.

It is also essential that any support be accompanied by transparency and accountability mechanisms.

I reiterate the firmest commitment of the OAS General Secretariat to work in support of the Haitian people," said Luis Almagro.
