Haiti - FLASH : Heading towards the formation of the Provisional Electoral Council

In accordance with the decree of May 27, 2024, the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) sent this week a correspondence to the 9 sectors that must have a representative on the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) : Vodou; Episcopal Conference; Reformed Cults; the University Council; Human rights organizations; Journalists’ Associations; Associations for the defense of women’s rights; Farmers’ Associations and the Trade union sector.

The CPT informs that the Platform of Haitian Human Rights Organizations (POHDH) and the Organization of Citizens for a New Haiti (OCNH) are designated to coordinate the process leading to the choice of a person to represent the rights defense sector humans at the CEP.

The correspondence specifies that each sector must, within a period not exceeding 8 days, submit the name of their representative to the CPT who encourages the choice of a woman,

According to article 14 of the agreement of April 3rd, "The Presidential Council appoints and publishes the list of members composing the Provisional Electoral Council in the spirit of the 1987 Constitution within a period not exceeding 60 days, from the date of the installation of the Government."
