Haiti - Politic : Antony J. Blinken spoke with Edgard Leblanc Fils (Video)

Thursday, September 5, 2024, as part of his quick visit https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43143-haiti-politic-antony-blinken-s-quick-visit-to-port-au-prince.html U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Edgard Leblanc Fils, rotating President of the Transitional Council (CPT).

Secretary Blinken emphasized the international community’s support for the Transitional Council as Haiti’s presidential authority. He expressed gratitude to Leblanc for the CPT’s efforts to appoint and collaborate with Prime Minister Garry Conille, as well as for the Council’s efforts to establish a Provisional Electoral Council (CPT).

The security situation, preparations for the elections, and the impact of allegations of corruption related to the BNC, targeting 3 advisors, on the functioning of the CPT were also discussed.

Both agreed on the critical need to make rapid progress in preparations for the elections. Blinken reiterated that the CPT’s efforts are essential to allowing the Haitian people to choose their leaders and restore democratic governance in Haiti, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said.

In a press briefing a few hours after his meeting with Blinken, Edgard Leblanc Fils clarified, "The removal of CPT members indexed for corruption allegations was not discussed with the U.S. Secretary of State."
