On Thursday, September 26, 2024, Ms. Yvrose Pierre, Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, the historic and tourist capital of Haiti, and Joseph Cakpo, Mayor of the city of Allada, a commune located in southern Benin, officially signed a twinning agreement during a ceremony held at the Cap-Haïtien City Hall.

This agreement marks an important turning point in relations between the two communes, with ambitious objectives in terms of cultural, economic and educational cooperation.

The signing of this twinning was marked by the presence of several high-ranking personalities, including Antoine Augustin, Minister of National Education, and Jean Garry Denis, Director General of the Ministry of Culture. These personalities, as well as the mayors of the two cities, stressed the importance of this agreement to promote joint projects in various fields such as education, cultural heritage, and economic cooperation.

Mrs. Yvrose Pierre, Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, in an emotional speech, declared "[...] I would like to express my deep gratitude to Mayor Joseph Cakpo and the entire delegation of the city of Allada for their commitment to this twinning project. Your presence here demonstrates your determination to make this cooperation a success, and I am convinced that the signing of the protocol is the beginning of a wonderful shared adventure."

After the signing, a dinner was held in the enchanting setting of the Town Hall garden, which allowed guests to discover the richness of Haitian gastronomy that the guests enjoyed.

It should be recalled that the Beninese delegation arrived in Cap-Haïtien on Tuesday, September 24, marking the beginning of a historic visit as part of the twinning between the two cities. In her welcoming speech, Yvrose Pierre, Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, emphasized the historical importance of this visit : "This twinning is much more than just a partnership between two cities. It is a reflection of the deep ties that unite our peoples, a common heritage shaped by history, but also a bridge to the future, a future that we want to be more prosperous and more united."

On Wednesday, September 25, accompanied by the former Minister of Culture, Eddy Lubin, and the former Minister of Sports and Civic Action, Edwin Charles, the Beninese delegation, led by Mayor Joseph Cakpo, visited the historic sites of the North, including the Sans-Souci Palace and the Citadelle Laferrière.
