Haiti - FLASH Mass deportation : The Haitian Consul in Santiago spoke with Colonel Aldo Fernandez

Tuesday, October 15, Sherline Celiscar, the Acting Chief Consul of the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago, Dominican Republic, met with Colonel Aldo Fernandez, Chief Officer of the Santiago Migrant Detention Center (Rotonda), on the situation of Haitian nationals in the Cibao Region and the treatment given to them at the time of their detention.

The discussions were conducted in a spirit of openness on both sides. Colonel Aldo, said to be ready to receive complaints regarding the operating mode of his agents and the treatment received by Haitian nationals, particularly minors and pregnant or breastfeeding women, for whom both parties agreed to guarantee special protection in order to find solutions to this migration crisis.

In the process, Sherline Celiscar, showed herself firm and willing to defend the principles and international agreements on the subject of deportation between the two countries.

The situation of the students received special attention and the Colonel assured that he would instruct his agents to treat them with respect.

Consul Celiscar believes that the protection of migrants is a job that requires everyone's support. Thus, Celiscar invites all Haitian nationals to collaborate, in order to facilitate the procedures and avoid any provocation likely to hinder their rights.
