Haiti - COP 16 : President Leslie Voltaire on official trip to Colombia

Leslie Voltaire, the President pro tempore of the Transitional Council (CPT), at the head of a Haitian delegation, left Haiti on Saturday, October 26, 2024, bound for Cali, Colombia at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Colombia Gustavo Petro to participate in the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) on biodiversity (October 21 to November 1st)

This international event brings together leaders from around the world to establish agreements to strengthen the protection of our planet and promote sustainable management of biodiversity.

During this COP 16, Leslie Voltaire will have the opportunity to reaffirm Haiti's commitment to environmental protection, while advocating for greater international solidarity in the face of climate challenges, which particularly affect the most vulnerable countries.

On the sidelines of this Conference, President Voltaire will meet with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to discuss the security situation and the humanitarian crisis in Haiti. An opportunity to raise awareness among the international community of the need to strengthen its support for the stability and reconstruction of Haiti.

In addition, a bilateral meeting with Colombian President Gustavo Petro, as well as with several other Latin American, African and Caribbean Heads of State and Government are on Voltaire's agenda. These discussions will allow us to explore new avenues of cooperation in the face of current challenges.

President Voltaire and his delegation will return to the country on Friday, November 1st, 2024.
