Haiti - FLASH : Security alert from the American Embassy in Port-au-Prince

As of January 23, 2025, commercial air traffic at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince remains severely limited. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has prohibited all U.S. air carriers and commercial operators from flying into Port-au-Prince. However, commercial air carriers are operating daily flights between Cap-Haitien and Miami, Florida, as well as to other destinations in the Caribbean.

The U.S. government is not currently arranging departures for U.S. citizens. As commercial options to depart Haiti safely become available, we urge U.S. citizens to take advantage of them.

The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince has been on limited staffing since July 28, 2023. The staff reduction limits our ability to provide routine consular services, but the Embassy continues to assist U.S. citizens in Haiti.

If you are a U.S. citizen in need of immediate assistance, please visit the American Citizen Services Navigator or email acspap@state.gov. NOTE : visa inquiries sent to this email will not receive a response.

If you have an after-hours life or death emergency involving a U.S. citizen, you may reach the Embassy at +509-2229-8000. NOTE : the emergency line does NOT answer questions about visas.

U.S. citizens seeking security and travel information should register to receive email alerts at step.state.gov. The Department of State has implemented a new version of STEP. U.S. citizens who registered with STEP before September 2024, should re-register at step.state.gov.

Actions to take :

The State Department's travel advisory for Haiti is Level 4 : Do not travel.

- Avoid being outside after dark.

- Stay alert in areas frequented by foreign visitors.

- Review your personal security plans.

- Have travel documents up-to-date and easily accessible.

- Carry proper identification.
