Yesterday the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance (FAES) has signed 8 contracts totaling 270 million gourds, with eight firms for the construction of 8 schools in the regionsof the South, Northwest and the West. Each school will accommodate around 550 students. The selected companies will have to do the work in 8 months. The construction of these 8 educational institutions will also create hundreds of jobs in the zones concerned.

"The Fund of Economic and Social Assistance s happy to proceed now to the side of Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) to the signature of a first batch of 8 contracts for the construction of schools as part of Support to the Restructuring of the Education Sector (ARSE), the program ARSE will have indeed promote in the sites of several educational institution the construction of 92 permanent structures, semi-permanent and various renovations across the country. The signing of this first batch of 8 contracts concerns the permanent structures, the FAES ensures the implementation and the construction will last 50 years, the duration of works is of 240 days for each institution from the first disbursement, the total amount of 8 contracts that we signed is of 227,103.210 gourds. These 8 first permanent structures that we are launching are comprehensive schools that will be erected in the North, Barrière Blanche and Garde Farge, in the South Aquin and Coteaux, in the Northwest Chansolme, Baie de Haine and Môle Saint Nicolas, and in the west in the town of Furcy [...] We will build a total of 9 classrooms of 50m2 each and 25 classrooms of 42m2 each for pre-school.

The different institutions will be equipped with computer lab with 20 computers, cafeterias and catering deposits, they will be supplied with drinking water and solar energy. Outside there will be playgrounds and green spaces. The first batch of 8 schools is part of a total of 37 permanent structures that FAES in collaboration with the MENFP ensure implementation. For these 8 schools the number of beneficiaries is 550 students per school..." declared the director of the fund, Ms. Josefa Gauthier.

Pierre Michel Laguerre present at the signing ceremony said that "...every wall that is constructed, each classroom that is built is a step forwardthat we do,to be able to to enroll all children across the country..." adding that the Ministry supports the will of the President of the Republic of Haiti, namely the education of all children by 2015 "...we are embarked in this great project."

"...When we make education, we do not do it halfway, it means that we take into account all the components that make school work, there is the infrastructure [...] we have plans for the training of teachers, school canteens [...]" said Mr. Laguerre.
