On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé arrived in the city of Les Cayes as part of a mission focused on the country's security and stability. This visit is part of a strategic initiative aimed at activating the Municipal Security Units, an innovative system designed to strengthen local security, in close collaboration with local authorities and the population. The Prime Minister's arrival was marked by a warm welcome, imbued with respect, trust, and hope. In his speech, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government's clear and firm commitment to leading the country towards free, fair, inclusive, and democratic elections, an essential condition for the rebuilding of the Republic. Before representatives of local authorities, local stakeholders, and members of civil society, the Head of Government emphasized that the central mission of the current transition is to organize elections as soon as possible so that legitimate authorities, elected by the people, can lead the country and carry out the necessary institutional reforms. "The transition I am leading has a clear roadmap : security, Constitution, elections. There will be no turning back. We have taken the path of elections, and we will not deviate from it," the Prime Minister affirmed. To realize this national ambition, the Executive, in consultation with the Presidential Transitional Council, has adopted an amended budget focused on security, social stabilization, and the organization of the electoral process. More than 65 million US dollars have already been mobilized for electoral operations, and 750 million Gourdes are planned to support political parties. In addition, unprecedented resources have been allocated to strengthen the operational capabilities of the National Police and the Armed Forces https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44704-haiti-economy-war-budget-more-impressive-in-words-than-in-practice.html The Prime Minister, who is deeply convinced that only popular sovereignty can lead Haiti out of the current impasse, also emphasized the crucial importance of citizen participation in this process. He called on all sectors to take ownership of the democratic process. "Elections are not the business of one government or one sector. Elections are the business of the people. They are the foundation of all legitimate governance." On the sidelines of the ceremony marking the activation of the Municipal Security Units (CSM), the Prime Minister chaired an important institutional meeting in the city of Les Cayes, which brought together the highest administrative, security, and territorial authorities from the four departments of the Grand South: the South, the Southeast, Grand'Anse, and Nippes. The objective of this strategic meeting was to mobilize all regional stakeholders around the major national priorities of security, the constitutional referendum, and the organization of inclusive and credible elections. In his speech, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the State's firm commitment to restoring republican order and stability throughout the country, an essential condition for a return to constitutional order. He emphasized the key role of local authorities in the success of the electoral and constitutional process, calling for unwavering mobilization at all levels. "Security, the referendum, and elections are the three pillars of this transition. The Government is fully committed to ensuring public order throughout the national territory so that every citizen can take part in the democratic reconstruction of the country," declared the Head of Government. Fils Aimé emphasized that all State resources are now mobilized to support security and institutional efforts for the referendum and elections, in close coordination with the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), sectoral ministries, and local authorities. During this meeting, local authorities in the Grand Sud region took the opportunity to submit their lists of grievances to the Prime Minister, highlighting the challenges facing their communities.
