Haiti - Politic : Transition from humanitarian aid to development

On Monday, June 17, in Geneva, Ambassador Ann-Kathryne Lassègue, Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, participated in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Meeting on the Transition from Humanitarian Assistance to Development, held ahead of the Humanitarian Affairs Segment from June 18 to 20, 2025.

This meeting focused on how to effectively transition from humanitarian assistance to sustainable development actions in protracted crisis contexts, through better coordination and long-term solutions.

The presentations, notably by Ambassador Robert Rae, President of ECOSOC and the Special Advisory Group on Haiti, and by Ulrika Richardson, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti, highlighted the magnitude of the Haitian crisis. Both stressed the urgent need for a more coordinated international response, based on integrated approaches, institutional strengthening, and lasting partnerships.

Haiti, at the crossroads of humanitarian, security, and structural challenges, remains a central priority for the multilateral system.
