Haiti - Washington : The Prime Minister multiplies his meetings

On Monday, July 14, 2025, security and institutional stability were at the heart of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's busy agenda in Washington:

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau :

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to discuss ongoing efforts to restore security and promote political stability in Haiti, reiterating that the security crisis in Haiti poses a threat to regional and national security. The two officials emphasized the importance of restoring constitutional order and strengthening the capacity of Haitian democratic institutions. The Deputy Secretary of State expressed U.S. support for the Multinational Security Support Mission, while emphasizing the need for greater responsibility sharing.

Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security :

Prime Minister Fils-Aimé met Monday with Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, the Department of State, and Related Programs of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

This high-level meeting took place amid heightened diplomatic mobilization to support the stabilization of Haiti. The discussions focused on the critical issues of national security and the organization of free, credible, and inclusive elections.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working, with the support of strategic partners, to restore republican order and reaffirm democratic institutions. He welcomed Diaz-Balart's attentive listening and the U.S. Congress's clear interest in the situation in Haiti.

Michael Lawler (R-NY), Member of the House of Representatives :

The Prime Minister met the same day with Michael Lawler (R-NY), Member of the United States House of Representatives.

The discussions focused on the national security situation and the need for a stable environment, a prerequisite for the organization of free, credible, and democratic elections.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his determination to restore republican order and ensure a transparent electoral process, in accordance with democratic principles. He welcomed the attentiveness and commitment of his American partners, reiterating Haiti's willingness to work in synergy with the international community for a lasting return to peace, stability, and institutional legitimacy.

Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the OAS :

Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also met with Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), to discuss the major security and electoral governance issues in Haiti.

During this meeting, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé outlined his administration's plan to restore security throughout the country and create favorable conditions for inclusive elections. He also reported on the progress made in the work of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

For his part, the OAS Secretary General welcomed the political will displayed by the Haitian government and reaffirmed the Organization's unwavering commitment to supporting Haiti. "[...] I met today with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who presented his government’s plan to improve security and hold elections by the end of the year, including progress made by the Provisional Electoral Council.

I reaffirmed the OAS’s unwavering commitment to Haiti, guided by the five-pillar roadmap we are currently developing—focused on governance, humanitarian assistance, security, elections, and sustainable development.

To strengthen coordination, I have convened a meeting of the Group of Friends of Haiti for July 29."
