Haiti - Politic : The OAS is holding more meetings on the roadmap 29/08/2025 09:45:44
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the Organization of American States (OAS) held high-level meetings in support of the Roadmap for Stability and Peace in Haiti. These meetings, attended by representatives of the Haitian government, OAS member and observer states, and other key stakeholders supporting Haiti, garnered broad support for the Roadmap, its objectives, and its methodology. "We developed this Roadmap by incorporating feedback from the United Nations system, CARICOM, various institutions, and member states," said OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin. "We will now produce a new version following a more detailed response from Haiti following the technical meetings on priority areas. I hope that as we begin this process, you will see that your contribution will have a significant impact on improving the situation in Haiti." Secretary-General Albert Ramdin welcomed Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who expressed his support for the Roadmap, stating, "I want everyone to know that my presence means one thing : the Haitian Government fully supports this Roadmap, and we will actively participate in it. We may have our differences, but all of this is for the good of the Haitian people, so count on us." The Prime Minister led a delegation that discussed the action plan, structured around five strategic pillars : • Stabilization of security and restoration of peace; • Political consensus and support for governance; • Electoral process and institutional legitimacy; • Humanitarian response; • Sustainable development and economic progress. Discussions focused on national priorities and how the international community can better align with Haiti's efforts. During the meeting, it was announced that the Haitian Government had officially joined the Coordination Mechanism (CCM), composed of the OAS, the United Nations, and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), to provide strategic direction and political oversight for the implementation of the Roadmap. Participants focused on three main concerns : • The security situation in the country; • The moral imperative to support the Haitian people during this critical time; • Haiti's political viability beyond February 2026. Finally, the OAS Secretary General chaired a meeting of the Group of Friends of Haiti, during which representatives of member states, observer countries, and partner institutions reviewed the updated version of the Roadmap and discussed mechanisms for mobilizing political support, resources, and coordination for the future. Representatives from the United Nations (UN), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Kenyan-led Multinational Mission, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), as well as member states and observers, participated. At the meeting of the Group of Friends, Miroslav Jenca, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the United Nations, stated, "This is a moment that demands unity and coordination among international organizations as we work hand in hand with Haiti to address the political, security, and humanitarian challenges facing its people." The representative of the CARICOM Eminent Persons Group, former Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Kenny Anthony, declared, "Haiti is on the brink of collapse, and without swift, urgent, and deliberate support, it could become a failed state. Haiti does not deserve this future [...]" HL/ HaitiLibre
