Haiti - Insecurity : «Every day gained over fear is a day given back to life» 06/10/2025 10:08:02
At the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva (Switzerland, September 8 - October 8, 2025), Ambassador Ann-Kathryne Lassègue, Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations and other International Organizations, spoke during the interactive dialogue devoted to the update on Haiti, presented by Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, with the participation of Independent Expert William O'Neill. In her remarks, Ambassador Ann-Kathryne Lassègue painted a clear and somber picture of the situation in Haiti, where violence continues to weigh heavily on daily life. She highlighted the Haitian Government's efforts to restore security, strengthen response mechanisms, and ensure humanitarian coordination with the United Nations and international partners. Welcoming the UN's allocation of $9 million through the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), she nevertheless noted that nearly 90% of the Humanitarian Response Plan remains unfunded... She advocated for increased support for education, health, and food security, stating that "a child who learns is violence in decline." In conclusion, she called on the international community to "transform emergency into hope, assistance into effective rights, and survival into the future," recalling that respect for human rights remains at the heart of development and security.
