Haiti - Elections : Exchange between the CEP and the private business sector

On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) met with members of the business community in Pétion-ville to discuss the upcoming elections. Representatives from the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti (AMCHAM), the Franco-Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CFHCI), the Haitian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIHC), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the West (CCIO) participated in the meeting.

CEP President Jacques Desrosiers, accompanied by Councilor Yves Marie Edouard, opened the discussions, emphasizing a patriotic and responsible commitment to the success of the electoral process. Note that the other members of the Council are currently on missions in the provinces and abroad.

In his address, Jacques Desrosiers reiterated that holding elections is an essential step in restoring the legitimacy of government and fostering a return to constitutional order. "In a democratic society, elections remain the primary means of attaining legitimate power," he emphasized.

Desrosiers stressed the essential prerequisites for organizing elections, namely : establishing an acceptable security environment and ensuring the availability of the financial resources necessary to carry out the various electoral operations.

This exchange session also allowed the electoral body to present several key elements of the electoral process to participants, including the new features introduced by the Electoral Decree of December 1, 2025, the implementation of the electoral calendar, and the procedures related to voter registration (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46492-haiti-flash-the-cep-has-just-published-the-revised-electoral-calendar-in-the-moniteur.html).

The discussions also addressed some concerns raised by participants. These included the discharge certificate to be submitted by former managers of public funds, the situation of individuals sanctioned by the United Nations and foreign states, citizen participation in elections, and the implications of using the National Identification Card.

President Jacques Desrosiers, Executive Director Jean Roger Philippe Augustin, and Directors Jean Marie Rémy of the Electoral Registry and Joubert Pollas Junior of the Programming and Planning Unit provided answers and clarifications regarding the concerns raised by members of the private business sector.

At the end of the meeting, the President of the CEP thanked the participants. He emphasized that these meetings reflect the CEP's commitment to fostering open and constructive dialogue with various sectors of national life in order to establish a climate of trust and guarantee an inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral process.
