54 Haitians intercepted by US Coast Guard

Fifty-four migrants, of Haitian nationality (43 men and 11 women) and six Dominican nationality (5 men and one woman), were intercepted during a US Coast Guard operation off the coast of Puerto Rico, according to a statement from the Southeast Regional Air and Maritime Operations Executive. The small, makeshift boat, a yola, was detected by a surveillance aircraft and then intercepted by the USCGC Thetis patrol vessel approximately 92 kilometers (50 miles) off the coast of Aguadilla, west of Puerto Rico.

Gran Grif Gang flees face the PNH

On the morning of Sunday, March 29, 2026, several police officers assigned to Saint-Marc, with the support of Kenyan officers from the Gang Repression Force (FRG), conducted an operation in the Jean Denis area to rescue residents who had been attacked by the "Gran Grif" gang from Savien. Upon seeing the deployment of law enforcement, the bandits all fled. Justice of the Peace Michel Faneld's of Saint-Marc went to the scene to conduct the official investigation. According to the (provisional) report provided by the magistrate, 16 people were killed and 10 others were wounded by gunfire. The wounded were rushed to the hospital, and the bodies were taken to the morgue.

Fonds-des-Blancs : fake police officer Arrested

On Monday, March 30, 2026, officers from the Southern Departmental Directorate of the Haitian National Police (PNH) arrested Bernard Jemson, alias "Franty" for impersonating a police officer and fraud. Jemson had been posing as a municipal inspector and head of a sub-station in the commune of Fonds-des-Blancs. He demanded large sums of money in exchange for security services. Already implicated in other fraudulent activities, including fundraising in the name of the Catholic Church, Bernard Jemson is currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.

2026 World Cup : FIFA Requirements

For the 2026 World Cup, FIFA requires federations to submit an extended list of 55 players by May 11th, before the final list of 26 selected players is due by May 30th.

France Stands in Solidarity with the Victims of "Gran Grif"

This gang is subject to United Nations sanctions due to its involvement in serious human rights violations against the population. The Embassy offers its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and its full support to the survivors and the communities severely affected. France reaffirms its solidarity with the Haitian people and its commitment to the fight against insecurity. France continues to support the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H) to strengthen their capacity to protect the population. France also supports international efforts to restore security in Haiti, notably through the deployment of the Gang Repression Force (FRG).

St. Marc Prison : Construction of a Sanitary Block

Jeanne Bolivard, the Departmental Director of the Ministry for the Status of Women (MCFDF) in Artibonite, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the sanitary block at St. Marc Prison, an initiative of the organization Women in Action for the Progress of Lower Artibonite. The presence of the MCFDF Departmental Director at this event reflects the Ministry's renewed commitment to ensuring respect for women's rights in prisons.
