Princess Sarah Zeid's mission to Haiti ends amid admiration and anger

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the conclusion of a four-day official humanitarian mission (April 27-30) to Haiti, Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, Senior Special Advisor to the World Food Programme (WFP), stated at a press conference in Port-au-Prince that she was leaving Haiti "with mixed feelings of admiration, as I discovered a magnificent country [...] and the determination of the Haitian people to overcome the terrible conditions they face [...] who refuse to give up despite the conflict," but also "with a profound sense of anger," expressing her "deep indignation" at "so many forgotten women and children, whose voices are not heard and who do not receive the services and care they need."

She pledged to use her international influence to help Haiti and emphasized that "this is a collective responsibility… It is everyone’s responsibility to fight against the cruelty we are witnessing in order to guarantee the well-being of each of these populations," the Princess stated.

The previous day, Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan visited La Paix University Hospital, the main and only major public referral hospital serving the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, which continues to provide essential services despite the closure or partial operation of many healthcare facilities in the metropolitan area.

During her visit, she met with the staff and toured the emergency and pediatric departments, which are central to patient care in the current context. In an environment marked by a persistent security and humanitarian crisis, the healthcare teams there continue their work with dedication, ensuring the continuity of care for the most vulnerable populations every day.

She praised the work of La Paix Hospital, which cares for more than two million people in need and remains open every day. “There is a shortage of beds, but the staff has never faltered; they are always available to support the population in need.”

During this visit, the Princess was accompanied by representatives of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), as well as representatives of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Haiti, the European Union delegation in Haiti, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator.

During her visit to the country, the Princess also met with displaced persons, as well as representatives of civil society, the private sector, and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Chancellor Raina Forbin, and participated in a high-level strategic meeting at the Karibe Hotel https://www.haitilibre.com/article-47414-visite-humanitaire-en-haiti-de-la-princesse-royale-sarah-zeid-de-jordanie.html.
