Immigrant Visas : State Department Challenges

The US State Department is challenging the decision of Federal Judge Jeannette Vargas, who on Friday, August 21, 2026, invalidated the policy that suspended the issuance of immigrant visas to nationals of 75 countries, including Haiti, solely on the grounds that they were nationals of one of the 75 countries listed (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48282-haiti-news-zapping.html). She ruled that this policy was unlawful and exceeded the authority of the Secretary of State. However, this decision does not mean that the affected Haitian nationals will automatically obtain a visa; consular officials retain the power to deny an application after an individual review.

He reiterated his call, made during his recent visit to Haiti, to Member States and international partners to immediately honor their commitments to the Gang Repression Force. "The international community must move from promises to implementation and concrete results."

EU Delegation, Embassies of Spain and France :

The Delegation of the European Union and the Embassies of Spain and France in Haiti condemn in the strongest possible terms the attack perpetrated by terrorists in the town of Kenscoff on the night of August 23-24, 2026. They offer their sincerest condolences to the families of the victims and their support to the mayor of the town and the affected communities. They remain committed to supporting the Haitian authorities, through their continued support for the Haitian National Police (PNH), the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H), and the Gang Supression Force (GSF), in restoring peace and security in Haiti.
