Haiti - Politic : Bill to strengthen the immunity of parliamentarians !

Considering probably, that the immunity of parliamentarians is inadequately protected by the Constitution, the Deputy Tolbert Alexisproposes to the Lower House a bill to strengthen this immunity.

Composed of three Articles, this project in its first article, indicates that the Deputies and senators can not under any circumstances, be prosecuted for the opinions and votes cast by them in the exercise of their duties...

In its second article, it would become impossible to pursue, arrest or prosecute a parliamentarian for his statements and opinions expressed, whether the rostrum of the Assembly, in the debates at the meeting in the Commission's work, in a parliamentary delegation, in a mission abroad, in the reports, during official ceremonies, within parliamentary groups or blocks, at a press conference...

In its third article, this bill prohibits all searches aiming a parliamentarian, in its office, house or its car...

In summary, if this bill were to pass, parliamentarians become legally untouchable... it only lacks a fourth article prohibiting the lifting of immunity for any reason whatsoever, to make of the parliament a lawless zone...

In the hard times that 'crosses' our Nation we can only note that the concerns of some of our parliamentarians do not concern the country, what will surprise no one.
