Haiti - Politic : The Ambassador of France, confident but cautious, face the political situation in Haiti

On the sidelines of a visit to Jacmel within the framework of the fortnight of the Francophonie, the Ambassador of France accredited to Haiti, Didier Le Bret spoke about the political situation in Haiti and its potential consequences. His remarks were intended confident but hardly masked some concern about the crisis, if it is not resolved quickly.

"...a cabinet reshuffle or even a change of government, it's part of political life, therefore, this is not something that is likely to worry anyone. What may worry, it is if we remain in a vacuum, a vaccum government too long. There, it can paralyze a whole series of projects that we have all with Haiti.

Our wish, it is really that the inauguration of Prime Minister-designate, can be made ​​as soon as possible. For now, the government continues to function, it executes the current business as we say here. The important thing is that the institutions are working and that each, in its role, can exercise ts responsibilities, whether the Parliament and the Executive... [...]

For now, we are always on the same pace of disbursement of our projects. Which may affect the country, it is the feeling that the country plunges into an institutional crisis, that, this is likely to slow the economic activity, but not only because it affects donor projects [...] in a democracy, having an opposition that expresses itself, it's part of the anti-establishment, when the opposition is the majority in the House that complicates things... But I think that it is in the interest of everybody to rebuild the country, you need a broad consensus on a few simple ideas and, I think and hope today that the Haitian political actors working on this..."
