The Ministry of Tourism this week launched a training program for frontline staff in Port-Salut. This continuing education program lasts three months and aims to train over 1,200 employees in service, in Les Cayes, in Camp-Perrin and Jacmel and in the North.

In this program, five Haitian students graduating in Hotel Management and Tourism to the Dominican University O&M (Universidad Organización y Métodos), have been selected to work as trainer, within this program of Ministry of Tourism.

Secondly, to improve the quality of training programs offered at the Hotel School of Haiti, the Ministry will continue its collaboration with the Institute of Tourism and Hotel of Québec (Institut du Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ, Montréal), who will work with educational materials (book, DVD, etc...), to a seminar of high level training in August, for teachers and managers of the school and to a long term technical and educational support, to the management team of the School and to the Directorate of Training of the Ministry.

It should be noted that the hotel school reopened in January 2012, held last Sunday, its first graduation ceremony since its closure in January 2010. A promotion of 128 Haitian students have received their end of professional studies diplomas and are ready to enter the labor market.

Gerard Therilien, the Director of the Hotel School of Haiti announced the coming of a new promotion in September stating that it will benefit from educational materials more efficient, thanks to the support of ITHQ.
