Friday, Dr. Jean Vilmond Hilaire, new Minister of Environment, was installed in office. The ceremony, chaired by Jacques Thomas, the Minister of Agriculture, was attended by Michel Brunache, the Secretary General of the Primature, representatives of Civil Society and staff of the Ministry of Environment.

In his speech, the new Minister of Environment, who did not hide his enthusiasm for the challenges ahead and has set 6 objectives for which he intends to give priority during his tenure to carry out its Mission :

• Establish structures to meet current and future environmental challenges ;

• Strengthening cooperation of his Ministry in environmental management, with the Government, Civil Society and International Cooperation ;

• Modernize the environmental administration and reform the legal framework for greater efficiency in the implementation of public policies ;

• Reduce the environmental vulnerability by increasing vegetative cover and managing in an integrated manner the natural resources ;

• Improve the urban environment, by the development and management of waste andby stopping the uncontrolled development of housing ;

• Take into account the environmental needs and integrate them into all activities across the territory.
