Thomas Gandy, the Consul General of Haiti met in Atlanta Saturday, August 11, at the Paschal’s Restaurant, more than sixty pastors of different localities of the State of Georgia, came at the invitation of the Consulate General of Haiti, to discuss and exchange ideas, on the most effective ways to better serve the Haitian community. After the usual introductions made by Mr. Faustin Lebon, Head of Religious Affairs to the Consular Mission, the Consul Thomas in his speech, after having renewed his commitment, to make of the Consulate of Haiti in Atlanta, a model in terms of interpersonal relationship with Haitian nationals under its jurisdiction and in terms of involvement in their social, economic and cultural development, the Consul launched an appeal to the collaboration of pastors, to accompany him in this heavy but noble task. Recalling that at the initiative of the Consulate, several projects are underway or will be or will soon, for the welfare of the community, he cited among others : the Saturdays of Health, in partnership with the Haitian-American Nurses Association (HANA-Atlanta); the introductory course in computer science, to be held from September 5, together with the Lutheran Services of Georgia ; the workshops with entrepreneurs and investors from the region and soon, its literacy program. Following the presentation of Consul General, an enriching exchange session was conducted under the direction of the moderator, Moïse Garçon, during which, Pastors were able to expressed ideas, ask questions about the best ways of participation and expectations of the Consulate to them, in the development of the community. By common agreement, the majority of pastors have decided to stay connected to each other and have a better representation in the community. As spiritual leaders, these pastors constitute a direct contact with the Haitian diaspora and are fully informed, of the difficulties confronted by it, thus becoming, of Ambassadors among the Haitian community and authorities in place.
