Haiti - Social : First Provisional assessment by region + Message of President Martelly

Although ISAAC has definitely left Haiti this Sunday, the country continues to receive heavy rains in several regions where extensive damage has been reported and the situation remains difficult on the whole territory, the greatest caution is always required. Overflowing rivers flooded homes, devastated many plantations and cattle swept away. Gusty winds also took away the roofs of precarious homes particularly in the West and Southeast.

The National Weather Center is asking people to avoid crossing flooded rivers in the North of the capital and in cities such as Jacmel (Southeast), Les Cayes (South) Miragoâne (Southwest) and Petit Goave (West). Cabotage operations are prohibited on the whole territory while air traffic disrupted momentarily, is now back at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

Provisional assessment dated Saturday, August 25, 2012, 12:30 pm

(Information collected by the 10 departmental technical Coordinators of the Civil Protection representatives of the sectors within the SPGRD OCHA) - Damage assessments continue this Sunday.

ARTIBONITE :

Roofs were blown away by the winds in several municipalities of the department. Three families living on the banks of the river Marcel were evacuated proactively. The grid was affected in Marchand Dessalines. A team was dispatched to repair. Route Nationale #1 was blocked in some place by falling trees and alluvium.

CENTER :

One person lost his life in Ti-Lori, Cerca La Source ;

The rivers Guayamouc (Hinche), Rio Frio (Maïssade) and Fer-à-Cheval (contour of Savanette and Mirebalais) are flooding. In the commune of Thomonde, 3 circuits have been damaged ;

The Route Nationale #3 is blocked between Hinche and Pignon ;

233 houses were damaged whose 9 destroyed ;

493 people are in shelters ;

Several rivers are in flood : Guayamouc (Hinche), Rio Frio in Maïssade ;

No electricity on the entire department, ongoing recovery in Hinche.

NORTH :

The wind took away the roofs of fifteen home. Road communication was cut off between Borgne and Port-Margot.

NORTHEAST :

Four road sections are cut due to the mud : Port-de-Paix and Jean-Rabel ; Port-de-Paix and Anse-à-Foleur ; Port-de-Paix and Bassin-Bleu ; Jean-Rabel and Baie-de-Henne.

The four major rivers of the Northwest are moderate flood.

In Jean- Rabel, one person was injured after the falling of a tree.

SOUTHEAST :

La route a été coupée à Jacmel, au niveau de Saint-Etienne ;

In downtown of Jacmel, traffic was difficult. TPTC have made the necessary ;

The telephone network is affected ;

The rivers « Tipen », « Gosseline », « Fond- Melon », « Cochon Gras », « Jet d’Eau », « Citronnier », « Fèves » are in flood at the level of Côte-de-Fer, of Bainet, of Moreau ;

A woman (51 years) lost life to Marigot, after a tree fell on her house.

WEST :

A 10 year old girl died in Thomazeau following the collapse of a wall of her house ;

The river grise is in flood as well as most of the rivers in the region

Flooding in Marin : the department Coordination of the West of the Civil Protection has sent two buses to help residents in need and also serve Duvivier. Always to Marin, the Haitian Red Cross has evacuated 350 people that it has sheltered to the home of volunteer firefighters of Croix-des-bouquets ;

To Delmas 75, rupture of a medium voltage cable, caused a house fire.

GRANDE ANSE :

The river of Dame-Marie, the river Glace and the river of Grand-Anse are flooding.

NORTHEAST :

Five people have taken refuge in the town hall of Mombin Crochu.

The section Vallière-Perche has been damaged due to a landslide.

NIPPPES :

Two houses are destroyed in Paillant ;

40 people are in shelters to Baradères, 13 to Grand Boucan and 6 to Petit-Trou.

SOUTH :

The river of Côteaux is in flood.
