Haiti - Elections : The President Martelly open to dialogue, invites the political parties

In a spirit of openness and dialogue, the President Michel Martelly has invited this Tuesday 28 August, all political parties to come share their opinions around the implementation of the Permanent Electoral Council and the upcoming elections. This forum will be held at 10:30 am at the Hotel Karibe Convention Center.

Lucien Jura Spokesperson of the Presidency has declared on this subject "[...] A big meeting is scheduled this Tuesday [...] between the presidency and the political parties, because the country is resolutely turned towards the elections, with among other the establishment of the Permanent Electoral Council which is a subject that who does not agree with all sectors despite its compliance with the Constitution.

The Presidency, in a spirit of openness fit to sit with leaders of political parties, to exchange ideas and initiate the process that will allow us to have elections honest, credible and democratic that's the idea, the spirit of the meeting at Karibe [...] since the decision to establish a Permanent Electoral Council, there are sectors that do not see things the same way, even in Parliament, there are voices that have been raised, suggestions and recommendations to go in the sense of this meeting [...]

Presidency is never deaf to any proposal, especially where they are in the interests of the nation, in this sense, this meeting will be a space for free expression, the political parties will be able to say what they think, how they conceive things, the Presidency will take note of the comments and may use them [...] but it is first in order to allow everyone to speak on issues of national importance, the Permanent Electoral Council and the elections who will be made ​​in the country [...]

The political parties have a big weight in the balance, there is no question of ignoring their advice, that they are not involved or included. That is why the President thought fit to create this forum [...] to see how together we can move forward in the sense of the rule of law and democracy [...]"
