Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, has proceeded earlier this week to Aquin, to the launch of work of Development Plan of the touristic region South. These work falls within the framework of the agreement signed with the "Fondo Nacional de Fomento del Turismo Mexico" (FONATUR) last August, for the elaboration of the Strategic Program of Tourism Regions of Haiti (Pole North and South).

The vision of the Ministry is to "create tourist regions where travelers can enjoy of a comprehensive program of vacation with cultural visits, natural and patrimonial. This model of integrated development in communities and surrounding tourist areas, as beneficiaries of the economic benefit and the creation of jobs, will result in the arrival of new visitors into the region."

Today, the Ministry of Tourism has set sail on the South the other pole of tourism development alongside the region North, to launch the development work of this tourist pole. This work will last until December, will be supported jointly by the Ministry technical team and of technicians of FONATUR.

The team of the Ministry, working on this Tourist Development program presented at this meeting, the methodology used to study the benefits and limitations of the three intervention areas covered by the Tourist Development Plan of the south coast. This plan will enable to assess the cost of investments.

The regional authorities who participated in this session of reflections and of presentation have took the opportunity to submit their proposals to the technicians of the Ministry of Tourism who also insisted on the community collaboration and of regional authorities involved in the project.

Richard Buteau, Vice-President of the Tourism Association of Haiti, said that he see in this approach "a light of hope for the development of tourism in Haiti."
