Haiti - Education : Haiti will have a Diplomatic Academy

Earlier this week, Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), proceeded to the inauguration of the the First cycle of Conferences of the Diplomatic Academy. This training precedes the upcoming launch of the Diplomatic Academy, a new entity within the MAE, responsible for the training and improvement of executives in the diplomatic field.

This training, which is organized in partnership with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the State University of Haiti (UEH) is held at the Hotel Montana August 10 to 14 under the theme "Methods of management and financing of development aid." Its main objective is to familiarize participants with the methods of management and of financing of development aid, by providing them with tools to master the many different aid mechanisms and arrive, to establish/create of cooperation projects in partnership with international donors.

In accordance the vision of President Martelly and Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, the Diplomatic Academy, which will be officially launched soon, will have as first vocation, to ensure basic training and continuing education of diplomats, called to bring the voice and defend the interests of Haiti in an international environment more and more complex and difficult.

"To allow Haiti to meet the challenge of becoming an emerging country by 2030, the Government recognizes that education is a serious challenge for the future, the MAE moving forward with the creation of its own training center, a Diplomatic Academy, whose main mission is to provide basic training for new recruits and continuous training more specialized for the executives of ministry according to identified needs," explained the Minister Casimir, adding that the services of the Diplomatic Academy, will also extend to executives of other ministries and government agencies, through seminars, conferences and research on topics specifically related to the implementation of the Business Diplomacy. "This is in recognition of the fact that the contemporary diplomacy is not only the privilege of diplomats."

"We live in a competitive world, diplomacy should be a tool at the service of development of the country," added Mr. Asad Belfort, Director General of the MFA.
