Haiti - Energy : Extensive repair operation to the EDH

In a statement, the Directorate General of Electricity of Haiti (EDH) inform the population in general and its customers en particular that an extensive operation of repair and rehabilitation is currently done on the network of the metropolitan area.

The hydro electric plant of Péligre which has a capacity of 54 megawatts supplying in large part the network of the metropolitan area, has benefited, from October 5, 2012, of works to repair one of the three engines of 18 megawatts. The repair being completed since October 15, the EDH, with the support of KFW and of the IDB, will proceed from November to enormous rehabilitation and modernization works of the plant, which dates back 41 years.

Still, in the context of its investment plan, the EDH has begun installing two 50 MVA transformers to replace the two 21 MVA transformers existing, in order to better meet the demand of the town of Delmas. To this end, the technical teams working for several weeks on the balancing of circuits serving the town to make theme more efficient.

Unfortunately, in this work, an explosion took place in one of the old circuit breakers of the sub-station and caused a reduction in the average of power hours (from 18 to 12 hours per day) on the road of the airport and through the town of Delmas. The Technical Department the EDH work therefore tirelessly to restore service, by Monday 22 October.

As part of this vast extensive of repairing of networks obsolete, the EDH, following an equipment failure, proceeded Sunday, October 14, 2012, to the total shutdown of the substation Varreux. The zones of Tabarre, Torcelle, Pernier, Cité Soleil, Route de l’Aéroport, La Saline, Route nationale #1, Butte Boyer, SONAPI, Bel-Air, Petit Place Cazeau, Route de Mais Gâté and Delmas 33 prolonged, have been without electricity until recovery, Tuesday, October 16.

The EDH through the implementation of its Plan of Action 2012-2013, proceeds in priority to the rehabilitation and modernization of circuits, in order to better serve its customers and make more reliable the grid, in order to no longer have these types of problems.
