Haiti - Politic : Official visit of Michelle Bachelet of UN Women

The former President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, UN Women's Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director [since September 2010], is an official visit to Haiti.

Monday, October 22, 2012, Ms. Bachelet met with members of civil society, including several women leaders, on the progress of women's rights, the improvement of their condition, gender equality and their empowerment in Haiti.

Ms. Bachelet also held a working meeting with the 7 women ministers of the government Martelly-Lamothe, including with Marie Yannick Mezile, Minister for Women and women's rights. The meeting focused mainly on the ooperation with UN Women, to increase the consideration of gender in public policies implemented by the Haitian government.

Throughout her visit, Ms. Bachelet was accompanied by Ms. Moni Pizani, the Director of the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of UN Women.

This Tuesday at the National Palace, the Executive Director of UN Women, met with President Michel Martelly, the First Lady Sophia Martelly, Ms. Marina Gourgue, the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and the women Ministers of the Government.

The Head of State took advantage of this meeting, to proceed with the handing of copies of the decrees naming the citizens Baina Bello and Danielle Saint Lot, respectively Goodwill Ambassador and roving ambassador.
