Given the magnitude of the pastoral mission of the priest of the parish of Saint-Louis roi de France, Mgr. Quesnel Alphonse, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed this week, Mgr. Alphonse, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. A decision of His Holiness, who confirms his fatherly attention and his pastoral solicitude at the place of the Church of Haiti and all the Haitian population.

"All the faithful, as well as all people of good will, are invited to pray for the new bishop, so that the spirit of the Lord will continue to work effectively in his Church, so that,by a wise and fruitful exercise of the sacred ministry, our people can find Christ in an abundance of life," said the statement of the representation of Holy See in Haiti. The date of inauguration of the Ministry of Mgr. Alphonse will be determined later.

Born December 1, 1949 in Port-au-Prince, Mgr.Quesnel Alphonse was ordained July 16, 1977 and made his perpetual profession of faith in October of the same year. After his ordination, he is a teacher and Director of the College Notre-Dame de Lourdes of Port-de-Paix until 1980, then director of the center of catechesis of the Archdiocese of Cap-Haitien and simultaneously, from 1983, master of novices monfortains. In 1986 he went to Paris to complete his studies at the Catholic Institute of Paris, where he specialized in catechesis. Back in Haiti, he takes the direction of scholasticate of monfortains from 1988 to 1989 then in 1990 he is elected Provincial Superior of monfortains. After a sabbatical year in France in 1996-1997, he found pastoral responsibilities in the diocese of Port-de-Paix, as priest of the parish of Chansolme, then as Director of the Centre of catechesis, of the Diocesan Centre for pilgrimages and of the diocesan radio until 2008 when he joined Port-au-Prince as priest of the parish Saint-Louis, Roi de France in Port-au-Prince.
